 "Nice knife" 2010-03-08
By Grey (Cerritos, California United States)
I have carried only a few knives with me in the past, a couple lockbacks and a small swiss army knife on my keychain. Aside from Victorinox for the swiss army knife, they've been small unknown knives found in the clearance bin. This Gerber was the first "brand name" lockback knife I've owned, and it's a decent knife.

It's the sharpest knife I've carried, and the included sharpener is the best one I've gotten as part of a kit. The blade is long enough and non-serrated that does a very clean cut (one of the reasons I switched to the Gerber was my last serrated blade tearing and ripping rather than cutting). All metal construction means it's highly durable, and like the description says, it's a very light knife.

My only complaints on a simple item like a knife is on the inclusions of the little "extras".

The clip is useful, sturdier than ones I've encountered, but after a few weeks of wear, the clip tension is loosening, and the screws holding the clip have already needed to be tightened by hand (which requires a star bit rather than a phillips head or slotted screwdriver). The other is the thumb tab that is along the edge side of the knife (as opposed to the thumb stud that is on the spine of the knife), it makes the blade easier to accidentally expose when on a belt clip since it isn't a pulling or sliding action across the thumb stud, it's a pushing action against the folded knife - meaning when you're working, moving, squatting, there's a small chance that the blade will get pushed out.

I keep it clipped on my belt on a diagonal through one of the belt loops, so accidental opening isn't an issue, but it is something to consider. Other than that the knife opens quickly, easily, and is quality throughout.

"Knife is great, 'sharpener' not so much" 2010-02-01
By W. Wulf (Seattle, WA USA)
I love the knife that came in this kit. It opens easily with one finger, can be closed one-handed, and is as sharp as any Gerber product.

The knife-sharpener leaves something to be desired. The device is more of a hone than a sharpener, really, being made of metal with a rough, emery-board like surface, similar to the nail file one might find on a mid-range multi-tool. It does very little for dull blades, but it may help keep a fine edge on an already sharp knife.

For the money, one is better off buying the knife and getting a real sharpener or hone.

 "Good Value" 2009-10-20
By Ross G. Palmer
Nice knife overall, holds a good edge, decent grip but the pivot gets a bit jammed up (a little hard to open) in dirty conditions. Can't beat the price especially with the sharpener included.

 "Great folder" 2009-09-14

This is a great little knife..extremely sharp out of the box..not sure how the knife sharpener will be though, I tried it with a kitchen knife without much improvement, but it was a freebie anyway..knife is great............

 "NOT serrated" 2009-08-14
By J. Moeller (HAZZARD, USA)
Be careful when ordering. The first picture above shows a serrated knife, the one you actually receive is NOT serrated. That picture should be removed, very misleading.
