"This Compressor Is Worth The Money!" 2010-04-17
By M. Curtis (Michigan)
17 APR 2010

After researching the `cornucopia' of compressors on the market and concluding my own specific needs for such, I decided to purchase this compressor. Good call on my part.

After following CH instructions on pre-operation setup, this compressor has performed very well. Within the first 24-hours of receiving it, I used it to add air to vehicle and ATV tires to cleaning the air filter and deck on my mower, to blowing off steps prior to painting.

While the coiled air hose takes a little time to get accustomed to, I consider it a minor inconvenience. As many have reported, one may consider the noise level extreme. While you can expect noise from any such device, this inconvenience is limited to only when the device is charging.

The portability is a nice added bonus. If you must use an extension cord, make sure the cord is properly rated to the amps and watts of the device. Otherwise, circuit breakers can trip and the device will not work as designed. The use of household-type light duty extension cords may lead to electrical shock hazard, increased fire hazard, and damage to your new compressor. When in doubt, consult with a licensed electrician.

Overall, I rate the compressor 5 stars. It beats driving to a service station and throwing away [...] for three minutes of air time. Assuming you can find a service station with a working air hose!

LIghtweight and very easy to use. This is for light duty jobs. I have used it for a brad nailer and also to fill tires. It did both jobs perfectly and I am happy with this unit.

Including a carry case would have made this a totally sweet deal, but such a great tool for such a great price, I can't complain. Rugged, heavy-duty like all Milwaukee tools, this rotary hammer (paired with Bosch bits) bores through brick, concrete, cinder blocks and everything else like a laser. Like a good ranch dog it never stops working, feels good to the touch and doesn't ask for any special treatment. Love this tool. RK

The Amazon vendor shipped it in a plain box without the usual red Milwaukee box and no warranty card included either. Ok no big deal, wish they let me know before purchase.

Anyway, very nice and works well, it fits both SDS and SDS plus bits. 20x faster than the 18V Milwaukee hammer drill. I guess the high quality SDS bit has something to do with it too as compared with a good carbide masonry bit. Also as compared with my 1" corded roto hammers, its 3x slower - as expected.

"Good combo, not perfect though" 2010-04-12
By Fly Guy (Northern California, USA)
I've used this combo now for a couple of weeks, repairing a small aluminum airplane. I've used the drill mostly, the driver only a couple of times. It replaces a 10-year old 9.6v DeWalt drill.

The Makita is a good but not perfect drill. A few small gripes:

1. The 1.5amp-hour Li-Ion battery lasts for maybe 30 mins of use. So, if you're actively using it, you'll be swapping/recharging batteries throughout the day. Since it does recharge in 15 mins that not a problem for me, but maybe someday I'll get the 3.0 amp-hour battery.

2. Working upside down under the airplane wing, the cooling air blows through it at just the right angle to blow in your face along with aluminum cutting chips, unless you swivel the body to a slightly awkward angle. Yeah, that's an unusual use, but that's what I used it for these couple of weeks.

3. The LED light is a nice idea, but unfortunately the drill chuck casts a shadow on the drill point. Oh well.

4. I wish the driver had a clutch or some way reducing its tightening force...I don't want to torque much with an Al aircraft. But it will be handy for removing screws and bolts.

Nevertheless I heartily recommend this drill and combo if you need both. It's a good value for the money. I got this over its competitors because I wanted the fast recharge. Hope the batteries last!

"Great Power for the Weight" 2010-03-09
By T. Ganz (USA)
Well constructed, with excellent balance, power, and weight. The impact drive is especially powerful, and would highly recommend getting the combo, as the extra cost is totally worth it. The only complaint I have is that the trigger distance between slow and full speed is very small. This isn't too big of a problem because of the speed selector (on the drill), but I takes a little getting used to after using a NiCd for many years. The case is well designed and compact, and while perhaps not as durable/protective as hard plastic, it stores both drills snuggly, along with charger, and room for a few drill bits. I can't speak for their drills, but my Milwaukee router and circular saw came in massive, unwieldy cases, so having a soft sided, compact case (that could also double as one manly lunchbox) is nice.

 "Shop Vac foam filter" 2009-05-31
By Karl Kusche (DeLand, FL, USA)
Never received anything so fast in my life. Ace is the place, as they say. When a friend moved ten years ago he gave me his fairly used Shop Vac. No instructions for this now antique model 500A. But I used it to drain my fish pond every few weeks, clean up my shop a few times each week or whenever needed in between. Never changed the filter - just emptied out the cleanups.

But - into each life some rain must fall and the two cats my wife wanted brought me mine. When the Vac started blowing out some dirt, this retired engineer said it was about time I now look into things. I never saw so much cat fur surrounding whatever filter they used. Lucky the dust didn't coat the kitchen where I stupidly took off the vac's coveer. Gloves - I needed gloves just to get to the filter. It looked to be foam. Time to install the first new one. Forget the manufacturer - though they made the 500A in year 1 they had no info on anything to do with this great machine. Taking a chance, the foam filter ordered through Amazon came as fast as yesterday!. Only one way to install it - use common sense! End of story: I am now Shop-Vacing all over the place...

These are so much easier to clean up than the combination filter (foam / paper) that are supposedly usable for wet and dry pick up. I used my ShopVac to empty a algae clogged man made pond earlier this season. The algae was simple and fast to rinse out of the foam filter sleeve. It would have been a major task with the other filter. The Shopvac 905-85-1 Foam Filter Sleeves are less expensive than the other filters. When they get too gross or filthy, just toss and replace it.

I think these foam filters are the better choice for wet pick up uses and I'm happy with this purchase.

Gerber 22-41121 Prodigy Survival Combat Knife

GERBER Prodigy, Serrated Edge, Designed cues for the new Prodigy were inspired by the award-winning LMF II, another knife engineered by Gerber's Jeff Freeman. The Prodigy is much smaller (9.75" overall length), but it certainly packs as much punch as its predecessor. The full tang, high-carbon stainless steel blade is beefy, and coated with black oxide for improved corrosion resistance and reduced visual signature. The ergonomic over-molded rubber handles ensures a soft, comfortable, but secure grip in all conditions. It's also MIRS complaint. Much like the knife, the sheath is designed to live up to the task with a friction-release thumb lock for security and a list of non-detection features. Noise is dampened thanks to a molded softgrip coating which, like the ballistic nylon material, is MIRS compliant. It's also MOLLE compatible and comes with a leg strap and two additional attachment straps for added security. Features: - MOLLE compatible - Leg Strap Included - Secure Grip In All Conditions - Full Tang, High-Carbon Stainless Steel Blade Specifications: - Overall Length: 9.75" - Length of Blade: 4.75" - Blade Material: High Carbon Stainless Steel - Sheath Material: Friction-release Thumb Lock - Blade Type: Fine Edge, Mfg No: 22-41121, Manufacturer: Gerber Blades

 "Nice" 2010-03-17
By cartoon lover (nevada)
Blade 4.75" long, 0.188" thick, full tang, Handle 5", weight 8 oz. Bowie type blade shape, Flat grind, factory razor sharp, with a generous 2" of serration.

I wanted something a little lighter and smaller than my Kabar Bull Dozier. This is like a bigger and fixed blade version of the Gerber Auto 06 military. The handle is a snug fit in the hand but that's the tradeoff for something smaller. Balance is a tad biased to the blade end. I am a big fan of high toughness knife steels. I don't mind losing a little edge retention but the blade must NOT break or chip when it gets used hard. The sandvik SS used in this blade has a great reputation for high toughness and good edge retention. In the end, that was the reason why I chose this one over others.

The sheath is effective, and quiet deployment. It's also MOLLE compatible, with countless loops and snaps and velcro dohickeys so you can mount it in every which way imaginable. But it seems a little overkill for a smaller knife and I'm no longer in the service so I don't need all that stuff, just a belt loop thank you. The sheath ends up being a very complex piece of hardware that weighs almost as much as the knife 6 oz. That's the only reason why i gave this 4 stars; but make that 5 stars if you are military.

 "Great Knife" 2010-03-16
By Dexter Charles Marquis (GLOUCESTER, MA, US)
This is a great Knife, but that is to be expected from a company like Gerber. It has great balance and feel. Not overwhelmingly heavy but its got a bit of girth. The blade is thick and rugged and great for bashing and using like a small hatchet. I like the "window breaker" for all things smashing too, although not much for use as a hammer. My one complaint is that the sheath is not very functional. it is large and the blade guard does not detach from the other part. It works well as long as you use the leg strap and put it on your belt, but with out the leg strap it kinda flaps around. All and all the knife works great and the price is right, and personally I like simplicity and ruggedness. Which this knife has.

 "Great knife...Shaky sheath" 2010-03-15
By William M. berger (ft. laud florida)
I bought mine from a gun show and my first impression was "WOW ! I finally found the 'Perfect' tactical knife for Me"..It fits my hand Very well / Full Tang / Impact pommel / Well balanced / Great rubber grip thats what i like to call "Reduced Slip" in that its texture neither 'Smooth and Slippery' nor 'Bumpy or Sticky' feeling / Very nice Mddle-of-the-Road length; the blade measures right about 5 inches at the hilt which allows for a nice short pull from any angle I might end up in but is still long enough to "Encourage Retreat" / A real good price / The handle is flat like fighting knives are supposed to be / Made here in the U.S.; keeping people working.

The sheath leaves a little to be desired though...It only comes with 1 leg strap; this doesn't bother me though because I wouldn't use 2 anyway...The tension lip works great but that makes the (2) snap-button straps pretty dumb; 1 is more than enough; , I cut off the top 1 and snaped the bottom 1 into itself and that works great as it gives the handle a slight angle away from the sheath which makes for an easier grab

If you're considering this knife and don't have the luxury of doing physical side-by-side comparisons; know that my hand is 7 1/2 inches long from the tip of my middle finger to the bottom of my hand where it meets the wrist, my second knukles from the finger-tip are 3 1/2 inches wide in the 'Gripped' position, this leaves about 1/4 inch of space on both sides which is an awesome ft for a fighting knife--BUT--Sheath 'Made in China'...Shame on you Gerber

 "Decent survival knife" 2010-03-10
By Keegan Pendergast (whittier, ca, US)
To start, this thing is made for work. I was waffling between this and the bigger LMF, but i decided on this because of the weight. Upon picking it upI haven't really been able to beat it up and give it a good run through, but the small wood-working i have tried came out really nice. It does however lack the necessary weight to really chop effectively, but in a survival situation i believe it could get the job done. The blade delivered to me is made of the Sandvick (sp?) stainless steel which i understand to be decent steel. From what I've learned it does not hold a fine edge very long. That is not to say it doesn't hold an effective edge. I have sharpened it once and it is perfect my camp uses. The handles is made of a molded composite that i have really come to like. It is not pretty, but functionality of it is hit right on. I have bigger hands and would have preferred a slightly thicker handle, however. The handle sticks well in wet conditions and seems to me that it will be a very durable product. The sheath is without a doubt the part Gerber saved money. The Nylon parts are quite honestly only sufficient for stowage in a bag in my opinion. I do NOT ever see myself strapping this particular sheath to my body. The other composite components of the sheath are however top notch. The sheath is definitely a head scratcher. I would have preferred to pay 10 more bucks and got another leg strap (because it only comes with one)and a replacement material for the nylon components. Overall, I would recommend this product to a friend who isn't looking for a specific job for this knife. It seems to be best used as a well-rounded emergency knife. It can absolutely be used for combat and has fulfilled my role of camp knife and hiking companion quite well.

 "Great, but not perfect" 2010-03-12
By Tim Little First Church
The product worked as advertised. I am indeed glad that it has a fuse in case of short or overload. Given that its intended use is in a foreign country, in my case India, it would have been awfully nice to have had a replacement fuse included in the carrying case. For half the trip, I had a wonderful power converter which had not been blown up in an unfortunate short because of a fuse; but no way to purchase or find a replacement fuse in a foreign and somewhat remote area. For those planning to purchase this unit, it travels well and the plugs work great for the growing number of items which are already set up for 220 volts (most newer Apple products can automatically switch if plugged into different current.) The 50 watt setting is fairly useless. The unit got hot to the point of melting even charging a phone on the 50 watt setting. The 1500 watt setting worked very well. And pick up a couple of small 5 amp automotive fuses to stick in the carrying case. For less than a dollar you can keep running in the event of an unfortunate short or voltage spike.

 "Design Issues" 2010-01-07
By T. Shah
We purchased this product prior to a trip to Europe and parts of North Africa. We thought that it would be very useful for our electronics. We actually had to buy this product a second time because the voltage converter blew out (and the plastic around it melted slightly) as a result of my wife's hair flattener, though I'm not sure she read the wattage on it before using the voltage converter. Here's what we've found:

Pros

- Cheap

- Easy to use because the instructions seem somewhat dumby proof - using color coding and symbols. This isn't our first time traveling overseas, so we didn't need it.

- The adapters work without issue. They're great. You don't really need to color coding since it's really just about plugging into the outlet whatever fits best.

Cons

- As I mentioned earlier, the voltage converter burned out on us. In general it gets quite hot

- Design issue for wall outlets. The convertor adds to a adapter, which means it all gets heavy, so the whole thing curves downward or can easily fall out if the outlet is old or loose. We worked around this by finding a way to plug it into the floor or table in our hotel

We bought this product a second time just to get the the convertor, so it wasn't bad. It was relatively cheaper to do that than buy something else.

 "STAY AWAY FROM THIS!" 2009-12-28
By D.S. (Milwaukee, WI)
I bought 4 different kind of voltage converters for my India trip and this was one of them specifically to plug in electronic equipments at lower wattage 50 Watt setting. I plugged in my Graco baby monitor adapter into this converter. It worked for 8 hours and then damaged my Graco adapter. Later I figured out why it damaged it. The converter gets extremely HOT! Thus it heated up the Graco adapter and eventually damaged it. I should have used an extention cord between the converter and adapter.

This product is terrible. There are better (and affordable) converters that do not heat up as much. For example, the 50 Watt converter made by Seven Star Model SS212 works great. I bought this from world gift center for only seven dollars. I use this for my wireless router 24/7 and it has not caused any problems so far. It does not heat up at all. I wish I had bought more of these.

The SMF-200 step down converter is also good but it does heat up a little bit. The good thing is that it provides 200 Watts for electronic equipments. I use this for my Sonicare tooth brush and Graco monitor receiver.

I asked for this particular drill (battery powered) for Christmas - and got it :-) I have several Black & Decker items and am pleased with all of them. Jig saw, two electric drills, weed whacker, tiller, small work bench, wall paper steamer (yes, B&D doesn't make them anymore, but I loved my original one that I had for 20 years, which finally gave out after many hours of use not only by me, but also by some of my office colleagues. But I found a "brand-new/old" one, never used, on e-bay.) Some of those tools might not be suitable for a professional handyman, but for a do-it-yourself woman (or some of the more clumsy, helpless do-it-yourself men!), they are wonderful, reliable products.
