This is a great product, Weller makes the best soldering stations, I use it all the time and have no complaints about its quality. I always wanted a solder station with a temp control for the iron and although this is hobby grade its works Great for the price. I do recommend buying a assortment of soldering tips for it, the one it comes with is rather large for intricate soldering but good for melting stuff together when needed.

 "GREAT!!!" 2010-01-14

Like another review said, FINALLY ONE THAT PUTS OUT ENOUGH HEAT!!!

I've tried a battery-powered soldering iron (Weller)... cost about $17 at Lowes. Junk. Heats up fast, sure, but doesn't maintain that temperature at all.

Tried a few cheap-o soldering irons from Radioshack, Wal-Mart, etc. Junk. Same as above... don't retain heat. Plus it doesn't have a stand lol.

This one finally did the job... and did it terrifically in fact! Heats up very quickly... and soldered anything I threw at it with ease. Absolutely love it... the tip it comes with is quite nice too. I'd like to pick up a variety of tips as this one is a little big, but should do fine for most of the soldering I'll be doing.

 "Weller WLC100 Soldering Station w- heat adjustment" 2009-12-08
By WinCrazy (near Philadelphia, PA)
The Weller WLC100 is a great, if not the best, soldering pencil an electronics hobbyist can get. This soldering station is marketed as a hobby item, not a professional one. Pro models have removable cords and automatic temperature feedback control to maintain a constant temperature under load.

I bought a ST7 conical tip (fine and pointy) because I think the provided ST6 chisel tip is too big for all general PCB work - hobbyist and pro. The provided tip is great for, say, automotive and appliance wiring, switches, etc.

The ST7 tip works great on PCBs when the temp control is dialed to a "2". If I'm desoldering a lead on a non-thermal ("cartwheel", "thermal relieved") pad to a ground plane, then I have to temporarily crank the dial up to "3" or "4". Don't leave the setting this high as it will vaporize and burn flux much too quickly. And, high tip temperatures corrode the tip quickly.

This Weller model has the following advantages over the ZD Electronic Tools "General purpose solder station for the hobbist [sic: "hobbyist"].

1- The foam grip is a bit thicker and cushier;

2- The pencil's cord is removable;

3- (?) The tips may (or may not) be more durable.

Differences between models:

- The Weller station is 2.5X as expensive;

- Weller tips are 2.5X as expensive.

- The tips are similar, but *NOT* interchangeable;

- The Weller pencil's cord is removable;

- (?) The heater control electronics may (or may not) be different.

- Station's plastic color: gaudy orange vs. light cyan (whoop-de-do);

All other characteristics of the 2 models appear identical.

Th WellerWLC100 is a class act, especially for being a hobbyist tool. Similar pro models (heat sensor + electronic temperature control + display) start at 2X the cost.

 "Did not last very long, thank goodness warranty is 2 years" 2010-02-18
By J. HALL
I bought this in January 2009. Used it about 6 times to inflate my cars' tires, with good results. However, when I tried to use it today, I discovered that the pressure gauge had become very inaccurate and inconsistent. It would indicate a pressure of up to 140 psi. So the auto-shutoff feature, which was what attracted me to this unit initially, has become useless. I called the warranty service center, and they told me to drop off the unit and they'd mail me a new one. Hopefully I'll have better luck with the new one.

Other points I should mention:

-My unit never worked with AC power. So I have to use the 12V DC plug, which means that I have to start my cars in order to inflate the tires. Which sucks because then I have to open the garage doors to avoid carbon monoxide poisoning. And if it's winter and very cold outside, that wastes energy.

-The power switch is in an awkward position.

-The valve head sometimes grips too tightly to the valve, so it doesn't release easily and sometimes bleeds quite a bit of air while trying to disconnect it.

-The cutoff pressure is set by a rotating bezel on the gauge, which protrudes from the top of the unit. I would prefer that this be recessed, or have some kind of locking mechanism, so that you could set your desired pressure and not have to worry about the bezel accidentally being turned away from that set pressure in between uses.

-The box describes the operation as quiet, but it is actually quite noisy.

The inflator I got only last me less then 2 month with 3 use on my kid's bike and it went dead on me. I call the warrenty center, gladly they replace it right of way. Not sure if the replacement will go dean in 3 use again or less then 2 month.

I bought this little machine because I believed it to be very handy, but was anything but. The cord to plug into the wall was way to short. When I tried to use the cigarette light to plug in, it would not even come on. I tried useing the wall outlet with extention cord but unit would not work. I was able to inflate a basktball first before it quit. Shipped it back. Amazon was very good about this and made it a pleasure. As far as the inflator, search for something else.Air pump

 "Works Great, Shuts Off When Done" 2010-02-15
By LordBuck! (Pennsylvania, USA)
I'm giving this item 4 out of 5 stars because the first one was defective, and because of a few cosmetic/ergonomic drawbacks. Amazon replaced the defective unit quickly, and without any hassle or extra charges. The second unit works great. I especially like how it shuts off after it reaches the pressure that you have preset. The three drawbacks are: The power switch is in an odd, hard to reach place. The short AC cord just gets in the way - I only use the DC adapter to power it from the car. And the compartment to store the DC cord is too small to cram it in, so I just wrap the cord around the charger. But functionally, it is great. I would recommend it to a friend.

 "Wow! This thing's going back" 2010-02-14
By Mpls Mark
I agree with most of the positive reviews of this product: relatively quiet, easy to use and I like the auto-off feature. The one big drawback is that the clamp at the end of the air hose is made from 100% plastic. I tried multiple times to inflate two tires on two different cars with different tire brands and I could not get the clamp to release from the tire stem without pulling with all my might. I lost probably 3-4 pounds PSI each time I tried to release the clamp and worried I would damage the tire stem each time. I'll go to the gas station before I use this pump. I'm sending it back.
